A vulnerability was found in libav up to 0.7.2 (Multimedia Player Software). It has been rated as critical. This issue affects the function svq1_decode_frame of the file svq1dec.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The svq1_decode_frame function in the SVQ1 decoder (svq1dec.c) in libavcodec in FFmpeg 0.5.x before 0.5.7, 0.6.x before 0.6.4, 0.7.x before 0.7.9, and 0.8.x before 0.8.8; and in Libav 0.5.x before 0.5.6, 0.6.x before 0.6.4, and 0.7.x before 0.7.3 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory corruption) via a crafted SVQ1 stream, related to "dimensions changed."
The weakness was released 08/20/2012 as not defined posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is shared at securityfocus.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2011-4579 since 11/29/2011. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
