The public release was coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability was named CVE-2012-3590 since 06/19/2012. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. The flaw has been found by using the open-source tool AddressSanitizer.

Upgrading to version 10.7 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at apple.com. The problem might be mitigated by replacing the product with Spotify as an alternative. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version. A possible mitigation has been published 2 weeks after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
