Open redirect vulnerability in views/auth_forms.py in OpenStack Dashboard (Horizon) Essex (2012.1) allows remote attackers to redirect users to arbitrary web sites and conduct phishing attacks via a URL in the next parameter to auth/login/. NOTE: this issue was originally assigned CVE-2012-3542 by mistake.

The weakness was disclosed 09/05/2012 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at github.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2012-3540 since 06/14/2012. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 62073 (Ubuntu 12.04 LTS : horizon vulnerability (USN-1565-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Ubuntu Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 195269 (Ubuntu Security Notification for Horizon Vulnerability (USN-1565-1)).
