Affected by this issue is the function create_post of the component Access Restriction. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a access control vulnerability. The create_post function in wp-includes/class-wp-atom-server.php in WordPress before 3.4.2 does not perform a capability check, which allows remote authenticated users to bypass intended access restrictions and publish new posts by leveraging the Contributor role and using the Atom Publishing Protocol (aka AtomPub) feature.
The weakness was released 09/14/2012 (Website). The advisory is available at core.trac.wordpress.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2012-4421 since 08/21/2012.
