Google Chrome up to 1.2 cryptographic issue

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Google Chrome up to 1.2 (Web Browser) and classified as problematic. Affected by this issue is an unknown code. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cryptographic issue vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-310. Impacted is confidentiality. CVE summarizes:

The TLS protocol 1.2 and earlier, as used in Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Qt, and other products, can encrypt compressed data without properly obfuscating the length of the unencrypted data, which allows man-in-the-middle attackers to obtain plaintext HTTP headers by observing length differences during a series of guesses in which a string in an HTTP request potentially matches an unknown string in an HTTP header, aka a "CRIME" attack.

The weakness was released 09/15/2012 by Juliano Rizzo (Website). The advisory is shared for download at threatpost.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2012-4929. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1600.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 67189 (Ubuntu 10.04 LTS / 12.04 LTS / 12.10 / 13.04 : openssl vulnerability (USN-1898-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Ubuntu Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 185021 (HP-UX Running Apache Multiple Vulnerabilities (HPSBUX02866)).

Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at chrome.google.com.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (78807), Tenable (67189), SecurityFocus (BID 55704†) and Vulnerability Center (SBV-36285†). Entries connected to this vulnerability are available at VDB-7073, VDB-7074, VDB-7075 and VDB-63089. Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
