WebKit, as used in Apple Safari before 6.0, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (memory corruption and application crash) via a crafted web site, a different vulnerability than other WebKit CVEs listed in APPLE-SA-2012-07-25-1.
The weakness was disclosed 09/12/2012 by Trevor Squires with propaneapp.com as APPLE-SA-2012-09-12-1 as not defined posting (Website). The advisory is shared for download at lists.apple.com. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2012-3667 since 06/19/2012. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The flaw has been found by using the open-source tool AddressSanitizer.
The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 120376 (Apple Safari Multiple Vulnerabilities (APPLE-SA-2012-07-25-1)).
Upgrading to version 10.7 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at apple.com. The problem might be mitigated by replacing the product with Spotify as an alternative. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
