Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in W1.fi hostapd up to 1.0. Affected is the function eap_server_tls_process_fragment of the file eap_server_tls_common.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:
Heap-based buffer overflow in the eap_server_tls_process_fragment function in eap_server_tls_common.c in the EAP authentication server in hostapd 0.6 through 1.0 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash or abort) via a small "TLS Message Length" value in an EAP-TLS message with the "More Fragments" flag set.
The weakness was published 10/10/2012 by Timo Warns (Website). The advisory is available at w1.fi. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2012-4445 since 08/21/2012. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
