The weakness was presented 09/12/2012 by wushi with team509 as APPLE-SA-2012-09-12-1 as not defined posting (Website) via iDefense. The advisory is shared for download at lists.apple.com. The public release was coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability was named CVE-2012-3683 since 06/19/2012. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 120376 (Apple Safari Multiple Vulnerabilities (APPLE-SA-2012-07-25-1)).
Upgrading to version 10.7 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at apple.com. The problem might be mitigated by replacing the product with Spotify as an alternative. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
