Red Hat Network (RHN) Configuration Client (rhncfg-client) in rhncfg before 5.10.27-8 uses weak permissions (world-readable) for /var/log/rhncfg-actions, which allows local users to obtain sensitive information about the rhncfg-client actions by reading the file.

The weakness was shared 10/22/2012 by Paul with Red Hat as Bug 825275 as confirmed bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared at bugzilla.redhat.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2012-2679 since 05/14/2012. The exploitation is known to be easy. An attack has to be approached locally. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1068 for this issue.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 78937 (RHEL 5 / 6 : rhncfg (RHSA-2012:1369)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Red Hat Local Security Checks.
