Buffer overflow in RealNetworks RealPlayer before 15.0.6.14, RealPlayer SP 1.0 through 1.1.5, and Mac RealPlayer before 12.0.1.1750 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service or possibly have unspecified other impact via a crafted RealMedia file, a different vulnerability than CVE-2012-2409.
The weakness was disclosed 09/07/2012 by Andrzej Dyjak (Senator of Pirates) as 09072012_player as confirmed posting (Website). The advisory is shared for download at service.real.com. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability was named CVE-2012-2410 since 04/23/2012. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 62065 (RealPlayer for Windows < 15.0.6.14 Multiple Vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows.
Upgrading to version 15.0.3.37 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
