A vulnerability was found in Sinapsitech Esolar Duo Photovoltaic System Monitor (affected version not known) and classified as critical. The management web pages on the Sinapsi eSolar Light Photovoltaic System Monitor (aka Schneider Electric Ezylog photovoltaic SCADA management server), Sinapsi eSolar, and Sinapsi eSolar DUO with firmware before 2.0.2870_2.2.12 do not require authentication, which allows remote attackers to obtain administrative access via a direct request, as demonstrated by a request to ping.php.
The weakness was presented 11/23/2012 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at us-cert.gov. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2012-5864 since 11/14/2012. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1068 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
The exploit is available at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. By approaching the search of inurl:ping.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability.
