Joomla! 1.5.x before 1.5.26 does not properly check permissions, which allows attackers to obtain sensitive "administrative back end information" via unknown vectors. NOTE: this might be a duplicate of CVE-2012-1611.

The weakness was presented 12/03/2012 by Cyrille Barthelemy (oss-sec). The advisory is shared at openwall.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2012-1599 since 03/12/2012. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1068 for this issue.

The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 12734 (Joomla! 1.5 Multiple Vulnerabilities).

Upgrading to version 1.5.26 eliminates this vulnerability.
