A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Tor 0.2.2.38 (Network Encryption Software). Affected is the function compare_tor_addr_to_addr_policy of the file or/policies.c. The compare_tor_addr_to_addr_policy function in or/policies.c in Tor before 0.2.2.39, and 0.2.3.x before 0.2.3.21-rc, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (assertion failure and daemon exit) via a zero-valued port field that is not properly handled during policy comparison.
The weakness was disclosed 09/11/2012 as 2012-4419 as not defined posting (MITRE CVE). The advisory is shared for download at cve.mitre.org. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2012-4419 since 08/21/2012. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
