A vulnerability has been found in Merethis Centreon up to 2.3.9-4 and classified as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown functionality of the file menuXML.php. The manipulation of the argument menu with an unknown input leads to a sql injection vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-89. SQL injection vulnerability in menuXML.php in Centreon 2.3.3 through 2.3.9-4 allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary SQL commands via the menu parameter.
The weakness was released 12/19/2012 by Tom Gregory as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). It is possible to read the advisory at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2012-5967 since 11/21/2012. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The successful exploitation needs a single authentication. Technical details and also a public exploit are known. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1505 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
A public exploit has been developed by modpr0be in Python and been published even before and not after the advisory. It is possible to download the exploit at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 6 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. By approaching the search of inurl:menuXML.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 80223 (Centreon 2.3.3 < 2.4.0 menuXML.php 'menu' Parameter SQL Injection), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CGI abuses. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 12632 (Centreon SQL Injection Vulnerability).
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
