vicious-extensions/ve-misc.c in GNOME Display Manager (gdm) 2.20.x before 2.20.11, when GDM debug is enabled, logs the user password when it contains invalid UTF8 encoded characters, which might allow local users to gain privileges by reading the information from syslog logs.

The weakness was released 02/15/2009 by Antoine as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is available at auscert.org.au. This vulnerability was named CVE-2010-2387 since 06/21/2010. Local access is required to approach this attack. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1552 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
