A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Cerberus FTP Server up to 2.41 (File Transfer Software). Multiple cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities in the administrative web interface in Cerberus FTP Server before 5.0.6.0 allow (1) remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via a log entry that is not properly handled within the Log Manager component, and might allow (2) remote authenticated administrators to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via a Messages field to the servermanager program.
The weakness was released 12/31/2012 (Website). The advisory is shared at cerberusftp.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2012-6339 since 12/13/2012. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 63560 (Cerberus FTP Server < 5.0.6.0 Multiple XSS), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family FTP. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 27364 (Cerberus FTP Server Cross-Site Request Forgery Vulnerability).
Upgrading to version 2.42 eliminates this vulnerability.
