The Sorenson codec in QuickTime in Apple Mac OS X before 10.7.5, and in CoreMedia in iOS before 6, accesses uninitialized memory locations, which allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (application crash) via a crafted movie file with Sorenson encoding.

The weakness was released 09/19/2012 by Will Dormann with CERT/CC as APPLE-SA-2012-09-19-1 as confirmed posting (Website). The advisory is shared for download at prod.lists.apple.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2012-3722 since 06/19/2012. The exploitability is told to be difficult. It is possible to launch the attack remotely.
