The png_handle_cHRM function in pngrutil.c in libpng 1.5.4, when color-correction support is enabled, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (divide-by-zero error and application crash) via a malformed PNG image containing a cHRM chunk associated with a certain zero value.
The weakness was released 09/19/2012 by Glenn Randers-Pehrson as APPLE-SA-2012-09-19-1 as not defined posting (Website). The advisory is shared at prod.lists.apple.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2011-3328 since 08/29/2011. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
