Bouncycastle Legion-of-the-bouncy-castle-java-crytography-api up to 1.47 cryptographic issue

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in Bouncycastle Legion-of-the-bouncy-castle-java-crytography-api (Programming Language Software). This vulnerability affects an unknown function. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cryptographic issue vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-310. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, and integrity. CVE summarizes:

The TLS implementation in the Bouncy Castle Java library before 1.48 and C# library before 1.8 does not properly consider timing side-channel attacks on a noncompliant MAC check operation during the processing of malformed CBC padding, which allows remote attackers to conduct distinguishing attacks and plaintext-recovery attacks via statistical analysis of timing data for crafted packets, a related issue to CVE-2013-0169.

The weakness was disclosed 02/08/2013 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at isg.rhul.ac.uk. This vulnerability was named CVE-2013-1624 since 02/05/2013. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1600.

Upgrading to version 1.20 eliminates this vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (81910), SecurityFocus (BID 57774†), Secunia (SA57716†) and Vulnerability Center (SBV-52344†). The entries VDB-7600 and VDB-66903 are pretty similar. Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
