Use-after-free vulnerability in Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 through 9 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted web site that triggers access to a deleted object, aka "Internet Explorer CHTML Use After Free Vulnerability."
The weakness was disclosed 02/13/2013 as MS13-009 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is available at technet.microsoft.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2013-0029. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 64570 (MS13-009: Security Update for Internet Explorer (2792100)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 100136 (Microsoft Internet Explorer Remote Code Execution Vulnerability (MS13-009)).
Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch MS13-009 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 12755.
