A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in BigAntSoft BigAnt IM Message Server (version now known). This vulnerability affects some unknown processing of the component Message Server. BigAntSoft BigAnt IM Message Server does not require authentication for file uploading, which allows remote attackers to create arbitrary files under AntServer\DocData\Public via unspecified vectors.

The weakness was disclosed 02/24/2013 by Hamburgers Maccoy as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is available at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2012-6274 since 12/06/2012. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.

A public exploit has been developed in Ruby. It is possible to download the exploit at securityfocus.com. It is declared as highly functional. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 121026 (BigAnt IM Message Server and Components Multiple Vulnerabilities).

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 13376.
