A vulnerability was found in Mozilla Bugzilla up to 3.6.9 (Bug Tracking Software). It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects the function Bugzilla::Search::build_subselect of the component Error Message Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a information disclosure vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-200. The Bugzilla::Search::build_subselect function in Bugzilla 2.x and 3.x before 3.6.13 and 3.7.x and 4.0.x before 4.0.10 generates different error messages for invalid product queries depending on whether a product exists, which allows remote attackers to discover private product names by using debug mode for a query.
The weakness was presented 02/24/2013 as Bug 824399 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared for download at bugzilla.mozilla.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2013-0786 since 01/02/2013. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1592.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 64878 (Bugzilla < 3.6.13 / 4.0.10 / 4.2.5 / 4.4rc2 Multiple Vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CGI abuses. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 12644 (Mozilla Bugzilla Information Disclosure Weakness and Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability).
Upgrading to version 3.6.10 eliminates this vulnerability.
