A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Arthurdejong nss-pam-ldapd up to 0.6.7.0 (Directory Service Software). Affected by this issue is an unknown function of the component File Descriptors. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. nss-pam-ldapd before 0.7.18 and 0.8.x before 0.8.11 allows context-dependent attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) and possibly execute arbitrary code by performing a name lookup on an application with a large number of open file descriptors, which triggers a stack-based buffer overflow related to incorrect use of the FD_SET macro.
The weakness was released 03/05/2013 (Website). The advisory is available at wiki.mageia.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2013-0288 since 12/06/2012. The attack may be launched remotely.
