A vulnerability was found in phpMyAdmin up to 3.5.8.1 (Database Administration Software). It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects an unknown function of the file config.default.php of the component Error Message Handler. phpMyAdmin 3.5.x before 3.5.8.2 allows remote attackers to obtain sensitive information via an invalid request, which reveals the installation path in an error message, related to config.default.php and other files.
The weakness was disclosed 07/31/2013 by Emanuel Bronshtein (Website). The advisory is available at phpmyadmin.net. This vulnerability was named CVE-2013-5000 since 07/29/2013. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1592 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 70753 (GLSA-201311-02 : phpMyAdmin: Multiple vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Gentoo Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 122524 (Fedora Security Update for phpMyAdmin (FEDORA-2014-8577)).
Upgrading to version 3.5.7 eliminates this vulnerability.
