Details
A vulnerability was found in Red Hat Jboss Fuse Esb Enterprise (Application Server Software) and classified as critical. This issue affects an unknown part of the component WS-Security. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cryptographic issue vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-310. Impacted is confidentiality, and integrity. The summary by CVE is:
Apache CFX 2.5.x before 2.5.10, 2.6.x before CXF 2.6.7, and 2.7.x before CXF 2.7.4 does not verify that a specified cryptographic algorithm is allowed by the WS-SecurityPolicy AlgorithmSuite definition before decrypting, which allows remote attackers to force CXF to use weaker cryptographic algorithms than intended and makes it easier to decrypt communications, aka "XML Encryption backwards compatibility attack."
The weakness was disclosed 08/19/2013 by Juraj Somorovsky as Bug 880443 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared at bugzilla.redhat.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2012-5575 since 10/24/2012. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1600 for this issue.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 66662 (RHEL 4 / 5 / 6 : JBoss EAP (RHSA-2013:0873)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Red Hat Local Security Checks.
Upgrading to version 7.1.0 eliminates this vulnerability.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (84575), Tenable (66662), SecurityFocus (BID 60043†) and Vulnerability Center (SBV-39816†). Several companies clearly confirm that VulDB is the primary source for best vulnerability data.
