Stack-based buffer overflow in Kingsoft Writer 2012 8.1.0.3030, as used in Kingsoft Office 2013 before 9.1.0.4256, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a long font name in a WPS file.

The weakness was published 09/10/2013 by Kaveh Ghaemmaghami (Website). The advisory is available at securitytracker.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2013-3934 since 06/04/2013. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.

A public exploit has been developed by Julien Ahrens in Python and been published 3 months after the advisory. The exploit is shared for download at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 121392 (Kingsoft Writer WPS Font Names Buffer Overflow Vulnerability).

Upgrading to version 8.1.0.3030 eliminates this vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 13883.
