A vulnerability was found in Cisco Prime Data Center Network Manager up to 5.x. It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown functionality of the file processImageSave.jsp. Directory traversal vulnerability in processImageSave.jsp in DCNM-SAN Server in Cisco Prime Data Center Network Manager (DCNM) before 6.2(1) allows remote attackers to write arbitrary files via the chartid parameter, aka Bug IDs CSCue77035 and CSCue77036. NOTE: this can be leveraged to execute arbitrary commands by using the JBoss autodeploy functionality.
The weakness was released 09/23/2013 by Andrea Micalizzi (rgod) with Zero Day Initiative (Website). The advisory is shared for download at exploit-db.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2013-5486 since 08/22/2013. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details and also a public exploit are known. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1202.
A public exploit has been developed by Metasploit and been published 3 months after the advisory. It is possible to download the exploit at exploit-db.com. It is declared as highly functional. As 0-day the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. By approaching the search of inurl:processImageSave.jsp it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 70166 (Cisco Prime Data Center Network Manager < 6.2(1) Multiple Vulnerabilities (uncredentialed check)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CISCO. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 43358 (Cisco Prime Data Center Network Manager Multiple Vulnerabilities (cisco-sa-20130918-dcnm)).
Upgrading to version 5.0%283%29 eliminates this vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 13498.
