Details
A vulnerability was found in Wernerd ZRTPCPP up to 3.2.1 and classified as critical. This issue affects the function getEpHash. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is confidentiality, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
GNU ZRTPCPP before 3.2.0 allows remote attackers to obtain sensitive information (uninitialized heap memory) or cause a denial of service (out-of-bounds read) via a crafted packet, as demonstrated by a truncated Ping packet that is not properly handled by the getEpHash function.
The weakness was released 10/04/2013 by Mark Dowd (Website). The advisory is shared at github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2013-2223 since 02/19/2013. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
