A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in OpenAFS up to 1.2.8 (File Transfer Software). This issue affects an unknown code block of the component Encryption. OpenAFS before 1.4.15, 1.6.x before 1.6.5, and 1.7.x before 1.7.26 uses weak encryption (DES) for Kerberos keys, which makes it easier for remote attackers to obtain the service key.
The weakness was released 11/05/2013 (Website). The advisory is shared at openafs.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2013-4134 since 06/12/2013. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
