MediaWiki before 1.19.6 and 1.20.x before 1.20.5 does not allow extensions to prevent password changes without using both Special:PasswordReset and Special:ChangePassword, which allows remote attackers to bypass the intended restrictions of an extension that only implements one of these blocks.

The weakness was shared 11/17/2013 as Bug 46590 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is available at bugzilla.wikimedia.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2013-2032 since 02/19/2013. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation.
