Double free vulnerability in libxslt, as used in Google Chrome before 22.0.1229.79, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service or possibly have unspecified other impact via vectors related to XSL transforms.
The weakness was disclosed 09/25/2012 by Cris Neckar (Slawomir Blazek) with Google Chrome Security as 2012-2893 as not defined posting (MITRE CVE). The advisory is shared for download at cve.mitre.org. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2012-2893 since 05/19/2012. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 62085 (CentOS 5 / 6 : libxslt (CESA-2012:1265)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 121759 (Solaris Denial of Service Vulnerability in libxslt).
Upgrading to version 22.0.1229.79 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at chrome.google.com. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.gnome.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
