The weakness was disclosed 12/07/2013 by Alex (Website). The advisory is shared at rollerweblogger.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2013-4171 since 06/12/2013. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.

The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 12802 (Apache Roller Multiple Vulnerabilities).

Upgrading to version 4.0.1 eliminates this vulnerability.
