A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Adobe Flash Player up to 11.4.402.278 (Multimedia Player Software). This affects an unknown part. The weakness was disclosed 10/08/2012 by Mateusz Jurczyk, Gynvael Coldwind and Fermin Serna with Google Security Team as APSB12-22 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at adobe.com. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with Adobe. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2012-5252 since 10/04/2012. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 850347 , which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 166696 (SUSE Enterprise Linux Security update for flash-player (SUSE-SU-2012:1326-2)).
Upgrading to version 11.4.402.287 or 10.3.183.29 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at adobe.com. The problem might be mitigated by replacing the product with Microsoft Silverlight, Java or Javascript as an alternative. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
