A vulnerability was found in Adobe Flash Player up to 11.4.402.278 (Multimedia Player Software) and classified as critical. This issue affects an unknown part. The weakness was released 10/08/2012 by Mateusz Jurczyk, Gynvael Coldwind and Fermin Serna with Google Security Team as APSB12-22 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at adobe.com. The public release was coordinated with Adobe. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2012-5266 since 10/04/2012. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 62479 (Adobe AIR 3.x <= 3.4.0.2540 Multiple Vulnerabilities (APSB12-22)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 166211 (SUSE Security Update for flash-player (openSUSE-SU-2013:0370-1)).
Upgrading to version 11.4.402.287 or 10.3.183.29 eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at adobe.com. The problem might be mitigated by replacing the product with Microsoft Silverlight, Java or Javascript as an alternative. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
