Details
A vulnerability was found in Schneems Wicked. It has been classified as problematic. This affects some unknown processing. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:
Directory traversal vulnerability in controller/concerns/render_redirect.rb in the Wicked gem before 1.0.1 for Ruby allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files via a %2E%2E%2F (encoded dot dot slash) in the step.
The weakness was disclosed 03/11/2014 (Website). The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2013-4413 since 06/12/2013. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1006 for this issue.
Upgrading to version 0.4.0 eliminates this vulnerability.
