A vulnerability was found in ownCloud (Cloud Software). It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects an unknown code block in the library lib/files/view.php. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
Directory traversal vulnerability in lib/files/view.php in ownCloud before 4.0.15, 4.5.x 4.5.11, and 5.x before 5.0.6 allows remote authenticated users to access arbitrary files via unspecified vectors.
The weakness was disclosed 03/14/2014 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at owncloud.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2013-2039 since 02/19/2013. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. The requirement for exploitation is a single authentication. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1006.
By approaching the search of inurl:lib/files/view.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 67283 (Fedora 18 : owncloud-4.5.12-1.fc18 (2013-10440)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Fedora Local Security Checks.
Upgrading to version 4.0.8 eliminates this vulnerability.
