Details
A vulnerability was found in Google Chrome OS up to 33.0.1750.57 (Web Browser). It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function AsyncPixelTransfersCompletedQuery::End of the component GPU Command. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
The AsyncPixelTransfersCompletedQuery::End function in gpu/command_buffer/service/query_manager.cc in Google Chrome, as used in Google Chrome OS before 33.0.1750.152, does not check whether a certain position is within the bounds of a shared-memory segment, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (GPU command-buffer memory corruption) or possibly have unspecified other impact via unknown vectors.
The weakness was shared 03/16/2014 by Pinkie Pie (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at src.chromium.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2014-1710 since 01/29/2014. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The pricing for an exploit might be around USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 05/08/2026). It is expected to see the exploit prices for this product increasing in the near future.
Upgrading to version 33.0.1750.58 eliminates this vulnerability.
