A vulnerability has been found in Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird 30.0 (Web Browser) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects the function AppendErrorTextMismatch of the component SSL Certificate Common Name Handler. Mozilla Firefox before 31.0 and Thunderbird before 31.0 allow remote attackers to cause a denial of service (X.509 certificate parsing outage) via a crafted certificate that does not use ASCII character encoding in a required context.
The weakness was shared 07/22/2014 by Christian Holler as MFSA2014-65 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at mozilla.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2014-1560 since 01/16/2014. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation.
