The "runshellscript echo.sh" script in Splunk before 5.0.5 allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary commands via a crafted string. NOTE: this issue was SPLIT from CVE-2013-6771 per ADT2 due to different vulnerability types.
The weakness was released 04/13/2014 by Gerhard Muntingh with Zero Day Initiative as SP-CAAAH76 as confirmed advisory (Website) via ZDI (Zero Day Initiative). The advisory is shared for download at splunk.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2013-7394 since 08/07/2014. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. The successful exploitation needs a simple authentication. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1059.
