A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Google Chrome up to 36.0.1985.143 (Web Browser). Affected by this issue is some unknown functionality of the component Extension Permission Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a access control vulnerability. extensions/common/url_pattern.cc in Google Chrome before 37.0.2062.94 does not prevent use of a \0 character in a host name, which allows remote attackers to spoof the extension permission dialog by relying on truncation after this character.
The weakness was disclosed 08/26/2014 by Rob Wu as Stable Channel Update, August 2014 as confirmed release notes (Blog). The advisory is shared for download at googlechromereleases.blogspot.ch. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2014-3170 since 05/03/2014. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation.
