The VGA emulator in QEMU allows local guest users to read host memory by setting the display to a high resolution.
The weakness was published 08/26/2014 by Prasad J Pandit as vbe: rework sanity checks as confirmed git commit (GIT Repository). The advisory is shared for download at git.qemu.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2014-3615 since 05/14/2014. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation.
