A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Apple iOS up to 7.1.2 (Smartphone Operating System). This issue affects an unknown functionality of the component Address Book. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cryptographic issue vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-310. Impacted is confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:
Address Book in Apple iOS before 8 relies on the hardware UID for its encryption key, which makes it easier for physically proximate attackers to obtain sensitive information by obtaining this UID.
The weakness was published 09/17/2014 by Jonathan Zdziarski (evad3rs) with Binamuse VRT as HT6441 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at support.apple.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2014-4352 since 06/20/2014. The exploitation is known to be easy. An attack has to be approached locally. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1600 for this issue.
