A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Apple iOS up to 7.1.2 (Smartphone Operating System). This vulnerability affects an unknown code of the component IOHIDFamily. The IOHIDFamily kernel extension in Apple iOS before 8 and Apple TV before 7 lacks proper bounds checking on write operations, which allows attackers to execute arbitrary code in the kernel's context via a crafted application.
The weakness was disclosed 09/17/2014 by Felipe Andres Manzano (cunzhang) with Adlab of Venustech as HT6441 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at support.apple.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2014-4380 since 06/20/2014. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 12/01/2024). It is expected to see the exploit prices for this product increasing in the near future.
