A vulnerability was found in Cisco IOS XR 5.2.0.BASE/5.2.1.BASE (Router Operating System) and classified as problematic. snmpd in Cisco IOS XR 5.1 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to cause a denial of service (process reload) via a malformed SNMPv2 packet, aka Bug ID CSCun67791.
The weakness was disclosed 09/18/2014 with Cisco as CSCun67791 as confirmed security notice (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at tools.cisco.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2014-3377 since 05/07/2014. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. The requirement for exploitation is a simple authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.
Upgrading to version 5.1.3.8i.BASE, 5.2.2.7i.BASE or 5.3.0.1i.BASE eliminates this vulnerability. The upgrade is hosted for download at software.cisco.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
