The issue has been introduced in 03/16/2010. The weakness was published 11/11/2014 by Takeshi Terada as MS14-065 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). It is possible to read the advisory at technet.microsoft.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2014-6345 since 09/11/2014. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1592 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 1701 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 79126 (MS14-065: Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (3003057)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows : Microsoft Bulletins. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 100215 (Microsoft Internet Explorer Cumulative Security Update (MS14-065)).
Applying the patch MS14-065 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
