Oracle Solaris 10/11 AMD pcnet driver information disclosure

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in Oracle Solaris 10/11 (Operating System). Affected is an unknown code of the component AMD pcnet driver. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a information disclosure vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-200. The product exposes sensitive information to an actor that is not explicitly authorized to have access to that information. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality. CVE summarizes:

Multiple ethernet Network Interface Card (NIC) device drivers do not pad frames with null bytes, which allows remote attackers to obtain information from previous packets or kernel memory by using malformed packets, as demonstrated by Etherleak.

The weakness was disclosed 01/20/2015 by Przemyslaw Frasunek as Oracle Critical Patch Update Advisory - January 2015 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared for download at oracle.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2003-0001. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1592.

A public exploit has been developed by prdelka in Perl and been published before and not just after the advisory. The exploit is shared for download at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 15260 (Debian DSA-423-1 : linux-kernel-2.4.17-ia64 - several vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Debian Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 123506 (Oracle Solaris 10 Multiple Vulnerabilities (Third Party Bulletin - January 2015)).

Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (17372), Exploit-DB (26076), Tenable (15260), SecurityFocus (BID 6535†) and OSVDB (9962†). Further details are available at blogs.oracle.com. The entries VDB-27, VDB-68712, VDB-68703 and VDB-68721 are pretty similar.
