Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-310. Impacted is confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:
The SSL protocol 3.0, as used in OpenSSL through 1.0.1i and other products, uses nondeterministic CBC padding, which makes it easier for man-in-the-middle attackers to obtain cleartext data via a padding-oracle attack, aka the "POODLE" issue.
The weakness was published 01/20/2015 by Krzysztof Kotowicz with Google Security Team as Oracle Critical Patch Update Advisory - January 2015 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at oracle.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2014-3566. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1600 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
It is declared as attacked. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 80921 (Amazon Linux AMI : java-1.7.0-openjdk (ALAS-2015-471) (POODLE)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Amazon Linux Local Security Checks and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 86129 (IBM WebSphere Application Server Multiple Vulnerabilities (swg21697368)-Deprecated).
