A vulnerability was found in Apple iOS up to 8.1.2 (Smartphone Operating System) and classified as critical. This issue affects an unknown code block of the component FontParser. FontParser in Apple iOS before 8.1.3, Apple OS X before 10.10.2, and Apple TV before 7.0.3 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (memory corruption and application crash) via a crafted .dfont file.
The weakness was disclosed 01/27/2015 by Gaurav Baruah (PanguTeam) with Google Project Zero as HT204245 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at support.apple.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2014-4484 since 06/20/2014. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. A memory corruption issue existed in the handling of .dfont files. This issue was addressed through improved bounds checking.
