A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Apple iOS up to 8.1.2 (Smartphone Operating System). This affects some unknown functionality of the component IOHIDFamily. IOHIDFamily in Apple iOS before 8.1.3, Apple OS X before 10.10.2, and Apple TV before 7.0.3 does not properly validate resource-queue metadata, which allows attackers to execute arbitrary code in a privileged context via a crafted app.
The weakness was released 01/27/2015 by Felipe Andres Manzano (PanguTeam) with Apple as HT204245 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at support.apple.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2014-4488 since 06/20/2014. The exploitability is told to be difficult. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. A validation issue existed in IOHIDFamily's handling of resource queue metadata. This issue was addressed through improved validation of metadata.
