A vulnerability was found in Apple iOS up to 8.1.2 (Smartphone Operating System) and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is an unknown code of the component WebKit. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. The weakness was shared 01/27/2015 by lokihardt@ASRT with Zero Day Initiative as HT204245 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at support.apple.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2014-4477 since 06/20/2014. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. Multiple memory corruption issues existed in WebKit. These issues were addressed through improved memory handling.

Upgrading to version 8.1.3 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 17032.
